13-year-old drowns to death while bathing in river with his father

MALAYINKEEZH: A 13-year-old boy drowned to death while bathing in the river with his father and brother. Arun, the younger son of Anilkumar, resident of Anoop Bhavan, Malayinkeezh Madathingalkara, and a 6th-class student of Maranallur Christ Nagar School, died.

The incident that left the natives in mourning took place at around 12 noon yesterday near Vattiyoorkavu Kavadi Kadavu. Arun had come to bathe in Kavadi Kadavu along with his father Anilkumar and elder brother Krishna Prasad (19). This place is full of deep pits and underflow due to sand mining. Arun was washed away while taking a bath. Anil Kumar saw Arun drowning and tried to save him but to no avail. Hearing the screams, the locals also tried to save the child, but the strong current stopped them. Vattiyoorkavu police and fire force were immediately informed. Firefighters found Arun, but he was dead by then.

Anil Kumar, who works in the Gulf, came home for vacation two weeks ago. Arun's body has been kept at a private hospital in Edapazhanji. The body will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem at the medical college today. Arun's mother is Diparani.
